Disturbing Footage Shows Moment Police Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
A police sergeant that leaped to the help of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knife attacker received the King's Commendation for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he placed a blade to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.
"Officer stabbed," the officer stated over his communication device.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera footage shared by the police department depicted Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon extended.
He ran into the officer who lost balance and went down to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground even though being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a safe opportunity, ending the confrontation to an conclusion.
Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get help on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell suffered two open wounds to his throat and more cuts to his limbs and body, while Sergeant Foster received slash wounds.
The department stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to control his colleague's bleeding prior to medical personnel reached the scene.
The new recognition comes subsequent to the law enforcement team were granted internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area union branch in April 2024.
They further earned a North West Courage Honor in summer 2024.
"The efforts of the entire team in the end rescued themselves and ensured no members of the public endured any harm."
Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, as stated by the department.
